Fred Couples married longtime girlfriend Suzanne Hannemann last month.
The golfer broke the news of the wedding – which happened on 2/22/22 – from the Hoag Classic, the PGA TOUR Champions tournament in Newport Beach, California. It’s the third marriage for Couples, 62, who said they were married in a friend’s oceanfront backyard.
The news came as something of a surprise, as Couples has said that he wouldn’t marry again, but not a surprise in that Hannemann has been seen with him at Presidents Cups and elsewhere.
“Her pastor from Torrance came and married us,” said Couples, the 13-time PGA TOUR Champions winner and 15-time PGA TOUR winner who won the Masters 30 years ago.
He said his new bride would be in his gallery as he starts his season in Newport Beach.
As for the golf, he’s not expecting much.
“My back has been brutal,” Couples said, “and like everyone else in the world, I got Covid.”
As a result, he added, he’s barely played any golf since last Thanksgiving, but despite being at only around 70 percent, he’ll give it a go and hopes to make it through all 54 holes.
Couples, who finished T2 at the Hoag Classic last year, will play alongside Jim Furyk and the red-hot Miguel Angel Jimenez, who made two aces on the way to another victory last week.
“I’ll be grinding it out,” said Couples, who will be teeing it up for the first time since he finished T19 at the Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS last October. “…I just want to play.”
