After opening the final round at Oakmont Country Club with a front-nine 40 to turn in 5 over, no one expected J.J. Spaun to win the U.S. Open.

But four birdies on the final seven holes, including a heroic drive at the par-4 17th, which held the green, and a 64-foot putt on the final green, gave Spaun his maiden major championship title.

Spaun's victory also earned L.A.B. Golf its first-ever men's major championship win, with the San Diego State alum using the L.A.B. Golf DF3 putter for what will be remembered as one of the greatest putts in U.S. Open history.

Spaun has seen a noticeable difference with the flatstick after switching into the DF3 putter to end 2024. Spaun has jumped from outside the top-100 in Strokes Gained: Putting to 40th on TOUR.

"There is no manipulation because it's like zero torque ... it's important to get fit for the right lie angle and stuff, because it's lie-angle balanced and that's the whole science behind it," Spaun said earlier this season during THE PLAYERS Championship. "It's been really good for me lately and hopefully keeps doing what it's supposed to be doing."

It certainly did. During his back-nine comeback, Spaun drained over 130 feet of made putts over the last seven holes. He also ranked second for the tournament for strokes gained on the greens.
