Update, Friday, June 13, 8:15 p.m. ET: The second round of the U.S. Open was suspended due to lightning and storms in the area. Notable players on the course when the horn blew include Thriston Lawrence, who was 4-over on his round through 17 holes and 1-over for the tournament. Play will resume Saturday morning before the cut is finalized.

Sam Burns carded a 5-under 65 in the morning wave to sit atop the leaderboard at 3-under, one ahead of J.J. Spaun and two ahead of Viktor Hovland as the only three players under par at the midway point of the tournament. Among those sitting outside the cut line are Justin Thomas, Shane Lowry and Ludvig Åberg.

The 125th U.S. Open heads to Oakmont, Pennsylvania, where the weather could play a major factor in the winning score. At an already tough Oakmont Country Club, heavy thunderstorms could make early week preparations difficult.

The forecast calls for comfortable temperatures as the competition gets underway Thursday, but with potential for showers and scattered thunderstorms to return for the weekend. Here's the competition day-by-day breakdown of the U.S. Open forecast:
