When Davis Lamb claimed a 36-hole win at the Latin America Swing-ending event seven weeks ago in Colombia, moving to second on the Fortinet Cup points list, he immediately set some lofty goals.
“I’m not satisfied by any stretch … I’m going to go out there and try to win the rest of this Tour so I can get to No. 1 and earn the full guaranteed card,” said the 28-year-old, eager to make his return to the Korn Ferry Tour.
Only two starts later—following a tie for fourth at the Explore NB Open and a solo second finish at the Bromont Open—Lamb has risen to the top of the Fortinet Cup standings for the first time this season.
With five consecutive finishes inside the top 16 and no result outside the top 30 in seven starts, Lamb is a strong No. 1. The 300 points he earned with his solo second at Golf Château-Bromont brought his season total to 1,107 points, moving him 49 ahead of last week’s winner, David Perkins—another consistent performer who tied for 23rd in Bromont.
Here’s a look at the top 10 players in the Fortinet Cup standings halfway through the 16-tournament season:
1. Davis Lamb, United States
Fortinet Cup points: 1,107 (seven starts)
Last week’s rank: Second
Best finishes:Won the Inter Rapidísimo Golf Championship (Week 6); runner-up at the Bromont Open presented by Desjardins (Week 8)
He is the hottest player on PGA TOUR Americas. Lamb has finished inside the top four in his last three starts: a win in Colombia, a tie for fourth in Fredericton, and a solo second finish in Bromont. His scoring average of 67.65 is the best on Tour for players with at least three starts.
