NORTH BERWICK, Scotland -- The third round of the Genesis Scottish Open was postponed until Sunday morning as a wave of dense fog rolled in, delaying play for a second time on Saturday evening.

Third-round action will resume at 7:00 a.m. local time (2 a.m. ET) on Sunday morning. The fourth round will begin no earlier than 10:15 a.m. (5:15 a.m. ET) and golfers will play in threesomes off one tee.

That sets up a lengthy Sunday, which will require the 36-hole leaders to play more than 27 holes. Michael Thorbjornsen (11 under through 13 holes) and Matt Fitzpatrick (11 under through eight holes) were tied for the lead when play was suspended. Johnny Keefer held the clubhouse lead at 10 under, firing a 64 to rocket up the leaderboard. It remains a crowded pack chasing the leaders. Alongside Keefer, Kevin Roy, Wyndham Clark, Chris Gotterup, Min Woo Lee and Jordan Smith are tied for third at 10-under par.

Play was originally halted at 10:45 a.m. (5:45 a.m. ET) on Saturday morning due to heavy fog. A cold front moving down from northwest Scotland brought rain and fog as play began Saturday morning at The Renaissance Club, causing a delay of more than two hours. Play resumed at 1:10 p.m. until it was suspended again at 7:55 p.m. due to worsening visibility.

The conditions are known as haar, a cold, wet sea fog or mist that frequently rolls in from the North Sea onto the eastern coast of Scotland and northern England.
