Marcelo's family established the Fundacion Mateo Rozo Rengifo in honor of his oldest brother, Mateo, who passed away in 2001 due to an infection he developed in the operating room while undergoing nose surgery to alleviate allergies.
If not a golfer, would be in the public relations field.
Foodie who enjoys grilling, Italian cuisine and seafood.
Had a restaurant (Mollie's) in Bogota, Colombia with his family, though it closed two years after it opened.
Fan of retired professional tennis player Roger Federer and Colombian musical artist Carlos Vives. Favorite professional sports teams are Real Madrid (soccer), Colombian soccer club Santa Fe, and the Miami Heat (NBA basketball).
His favorite book is John Carlin's "Playing the Enemy."
Uncle, Ivan Rengifo, represented Colombia seven times in the (golf) World Cup and won many tournaments as a professional in Colombia and abroad.
Grandfather, Vicente Falaschini (passed away in 2004), was an Argentine professional from Mar del Plata who moved to Colombia in 1957. Mr. Falaschini was also a golf course designer and Marcelo's first golf instructor. Marcelo says his grandfather would have been extremely proud to see him win the Visa Argentina Open in 2013.
Amateur Highlights
Played two seasons at John A. Logan College (2008-10), a community college in southwestern Illinois (specifically Carterville, Illinois), and two seasons at Lynn University (2010-12), an NCAA Division II program in Boca Raton, Florida.
In two seasons at John A. Logan College, helped the program win the team national title at the 2009 NJCAA Division II Championship. The following year, Rozo won the individual national title.
In two seasons at Lynn University, earned one individual victory and tied a single-season school record with nine top-10 finishes in the 2011-12 season. Also earned All-America First Team and All-Sunshine State Conference First Team honors in 2012.
