As a child, doctors diagnosed him with a growth hormone deficiency, and although he liked all sports he knew he likely wouldn’t grow very big so he concentrated on golf.

Studied and competed in tae kwon do during his elementary school years, earning a black belt.

Enjoys playing video games.

Father, Jeff, is a professor of kinesiology at the University of North Texas.

Amateur Highlights

Played five seasons at Southern Methodist University (2018-22), winning three times and earning two All-America honors -- a first-team selection in 2021 and second-team nod in 2020.

Named the 2020-21 American Athletic Conference Player of the Year and finished the same season with a 70.00 scoring average, breaking a school record (in records dating to 1993-94) previously held by Mac Meissner (70.44 in 2019-20).

Broke the school record (in records dating to 1993-94) for career scoring average (71.04) previously held by Bryson DeChambeau (71.15).

Graduated from Laurel Springs, an accredited online school, ahead of schedule and enrolled at SMU in 2018 prior to the start of the spring portion of the season.

Won the 2017 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship at Flint Hills National Golf Club in Andover, Kansas, defeating Matthew Wolff in the 36-hole final; he also defeated Joe Highsmith (Round of 32) and Davis Shore (quarterfinals) en route to the title.

Lost to Min Woo Lee in the title match of the 2016 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship at The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tennessee; he defeated Norman Xiong (Round of 32) and John Pak (semifinals) en route to the final.

Back-to-back AJGA Rolex Junior Player of the Year in 2016 and 2017, making him the fifth player in history to win the award in consecutive years (Tracy Phillips, 1979-80; Phil Mickelson, 1986-88; Tiger Woods, 1991-92; Brian Harman, 2003-04).

Reached the Round of 16 at the 2018 U.S. Amateur Championship at Pebble Beach, falling to Devon Bling in 20 holes; he also qualified for match play at the 2016 U.S. Amateur at Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, but was defeated by Doc Redman in the Round of 64.

Made his PGA TOUR debut in 2018, earning the AT&T Byron Nelson Exemption, accepting an invitation into the AT&T Byron Nelson.
