Personal

Favorite golf memory is shooting in the 60s (68) for the first time in a tournament when he was 12 at Mountain Brook Country Club.

Hidden talent is cooking.

Uses a 1957 half dollar and 1937 nickel as ball markers.

Cites Eric Church and Dave Matthews Band as his favorite musical acts.

Lists fly fishing in Mexico and Colorado as his two top bucket items.

Favorite golfers growing up were Tiger Woods and Ernie Els.

Dream foursome would be his dad, brother, and Byron Nelson.

Two best sporting events he's ever attended were the Auburn "Kick Six" game against Alabama and the 2004 Masters Tournament, where he was greenside when Phil Mickelson made his putt for the victory.

Brother, Bradley Johnson, finished as the runner-up at the 2005 U.S. Junior Championship to Kevin Tway but passed away less than a year later in a fatal car crash.

Amateur Highlights

Played five seasons at Auburn University (2011-16 -- redshirted as a junior in 2013-14), garnering a 2016 All-America First Team selection, two All-Southeastern Conference selections, including a first-team nod in 2016, in addition to tying for the second-most career wins (five) in program history

Posted an award-winning senior season at Auburn in 2015-16, which included tying a school record for single-season wins (three) and breaking the school record for single-season scoring average (70.37)

Represented the United States at the 2016 Arnold Palmer Cup; his teammates included PGA TOUR winner Will Zalatoris, Doug Ghim, Will Gordon, Rico Hoey, and Alistair Docherty

Teammates at Auburn included future PGA TOUR members Blayne Barber (2011-12 season) and Dominic Bozzelli (2011-12, 2012-13), as well as future Korn Ferry Tour members Trace Crowe (2015-16), Michael Hebert (2011-12, 2012-13), and Jacob Solomon (2015-16)

Shortly after his sophomore season at Auburn, won the 2013 Alabama State Amateur Championship by two strokes over multi-time Korn Ferry Tour winner and PGA TOUR member Robby Shelton, who had just graduated from high school at that time

Won the 2013 Dogwood Invitational in record-breaking fashion, finishing at 28-under par to shatter the 72-hole tournament scoring record (previously 23-under par from 2002) and four strokes clear of runner-up Ollie Schniederjans, a junior at Georgia Tech at the time; the event's past champions include Webb Simpson (2007), Brian Harman (2009), Ben Kohles (2012), and Dawson Armstrong (2015)

Won the 2010 Junior PLAYERS Championship after he began the week as an alternate; he hit his second shot into the water on the par-4 18th at the TPC Sawgrass PLAYERS Stadium Course in the final round but made a 20-footer for bogey a one-stroke victory over Jordan Spieth and Emiliano Grillo

Played the 2010 Winn-Dixie Jacksonville Open (missed cut), formerly a Korn Ferry Tour event contested at the TPC Sawgrass Dye's Valley Course, as a sponsor exemption by virtue of his victory at the 2010 Junior PLAYERS Championship

Joined the Spain Park High School (Hoover, Alabama) golf team as an eighth-grader and helped the program win three consecutive AHSAA Class 6A State Championships in 2008, 2009, and 2010; he also won the individual state title in 2010, the same year PGA TOUR member Robby Shelton and previous TOUR member Bobby Wyatt won the Class 5A and 4A individual state titles, respectively
