Almost quit the Colgate University golf team to try out for the football team.
Won Guy Smith Memorial Award for hockey in high school.
Notable relatives include father, Guy Smith, who played hockey for the Ottawa 67s, the University of New Hampshire and the New England Whalers of the World Hockey Association. Guy played for a WHA championship-winning team with the Whalers. His great uncle, Jay Silverheels, was an athlete and actor, who was best known for his role as Tonto in the long-running "The Lone Ranger" TV and movie series.
Non-golf related jobs held include a short time working for a financial services firm.
Earliest golf memories were hitting balls around the family's farmhouse in New Hampshire and having imaginery matches with Lee Trevino, Chi Chi Rodriguez and Jack Nicklaus. "I think I broke every window in the house and barn," he said.
Biggest thrill in golf was competing in the 2013 U.S. Open at Merion and playing practice rounds with Tiger Woods, Jason Day and Steve Stricker.

Not many people know his father was a full-blooded Mohawk. He is enrolled as a Mohawk of the Six Nations of the Grand River, where he has lived on and over the last 10 years.
