Personal

Was an outstanding high school athlete at Westminster Christian in Miami, where he lettered in golf and basketball.

Favorite book is Gates of Fire by Steven Pressfield; he reads it every year.

Enjoys fitness, surfing, fishing, and hunting.

Loves all sports and cheers for Duke, the New Orleans Saints and the Carolina Hurricanes.

Used to attend the Doral Open and wanted nothing more than to play that tournament; he has a picture of himself at age 3 with Jack Nicklaus at the event in 1986.

Married to Ashley who was a collegiate volleyball and track athlete, and later worked for the U.S. Congress in Washington, D.C.; she and Ryan were set up by Scott and Jennifer Stallings.

Father (Steve Blaum) played football at LSU. Brother (Brent Blaum) played golf at LSU and baseball at Alcorn State.

Amateur Highlights

Played four seasons at Duke University (2002-06), winning four times individually, with the crown jewel being medalist honors at the 2005 Atlantic Coast Conference Championship.

Capped his career with back-to-back All-America First Team selections in 2005 and 2006.

Back-to-back ACC Player of the Year in 2005 and 2006, joining David Duval (1992, 1993), Bryce Molder (1999, 2000, 2001), and Bill Haas (2003, 2004) as the only players in history at the time with multiple ACC Player of the Year awards. In the years since, Ben Kohles (2010, 2011), Brooks Koepka (2010, 2012), and Ollie Schniederjans (2014, 2015) accomplished the feat.

Also earned the 2002-03 ACC Freshman of the Year award.
