Kyle Westmoreland earned his first Korn Ferry Tour title at the Astara Golf Championship presented by Mastercard, carding a final-round, 1-under 70 at Country Club de Bogota-Lagos, one stroke clear of Pierceson Coody and Christo Lamprecht.
It’s the first PGA TOUR-sanctioned victory on any Tour for Westmoreland, 33, the former active-duty Air Force Captain. Westmoreland held full-time TOUR status in 2022-23, but lost his card after struggling in his rookie season.
The victory in Colombia this week puts Westmoreland in a position to return to the PGA TOUR next year. Westmoreland is now No. 3 on the Korn Ferry Tour Points List. The top 20 after the Korn Ferry Tour Finals this fall will earn a TOUR card.
Westmoreland began the day with a two-shot lead, but within a few swings, it was gone. The Texan made a double bogey on the first hole to drop back into a tie for the lead. It was the start of a topsy-turvy round that included seven birdies, four bogeys, and that first-hole blunder. Westmoreland delivered when it mattered, though, with three straight birdies on Nos. 14-16. His birdies on the 15th and 16th were both lengthy, well outside 30 feet. Westmoreland held a two-shot lead entering the 72nd hole and closed with a bogey to win by one shot.
Westmoreland played collegiately at the United States Air Force Academy for four seasons (2010-14) before serving a five-year term in the Air Force. Westmoreland spent several years doing administrative duties then began working as a combative instructor, which involved a mix of wrestling and ground grappling. Westmoreland concluded his service in 2019 and immediately began pursuing pro golf.
The victory at the Astara Golf Championship presented by Mastercard is Westmoreland’s first win in 60 starts on the Korn Ferry Tour.
