Stanford swept the team and individual titles at the first elite college tournament of the season, as junior Michael Thorbjornsen won the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational and led the Cardinal to a 12-stroke victory. Currently the sixth-ranked amateur in the world, Thorbjornsen birdied four of his last eight holes to shoot a final-round 66 and win by one over Florida’s Ricky Castillo (Ranked 23rd) and Illinois’ Adrien Dumont De Chassart (Ranked 6th).

Stanford placed four players in the top-12, with junior Karl Vilips finishing T6 and seniors Ethan Ng and Barclay Brown finishing T9 and T12, respectively. Florida and Illinois tied for second, while Ryggs Johnston (Ranked 54th) led Arizona State to a fourth-place finish and Canon Claycomb (Ranked 9th) led Alabama to fifth place. In all, nine players in this season’s Velocity Global Ranking finished in the top-10 at Olympia Fields.

At the Gopher Invitational, Wilson Andress (Ranked 137th) captured his first collegiate title and led Georgia Southern to the team title. The Eagles’ lineup also included a T10 finish by U.S. Amateur runner-up Ben Carr (Ranked 22nd) and a T12 finish by Mason Williams (Ranked 21st).
