Tripp Kinney, Patrick Newcomb share third-round lead at Fortinet Cup Championship

SURREY, British Columbia — Tripp Kinney and Patrick Newcomb each sit at 15-under par and share the 54-hole lead at the Fortinet Cup Championship following Saturday’s third round at Morgan Creek Golf Course. Kinney jumped to the top of the leaderboard after a bogey-free 7-under 63, while Newcomb carded his second consecutive 6-under 64 to grab a share of the lead.
The pair leads Calgary’s Hunter Thomson by one stroke heading into Sunday’s final round. Thomson positioned himself to move inside the top 80 and secure status for next season after carding a bogey-free 62 and would jump from No. 96 to No. 48 in the Fortinet Cup. John DuBois is also projected to move inside the top 80 from No. 93 to No. 78 after carding a course record 9-under 61.
Michael Brennan, the No. 1 player in the Fortinet Cup standings, trails by two strokes after carding a 2-under 63 on Saturday.
Kinney started the week at No. 20 in the Fortinet Cup points list and would move to No. 4 with a win on Sunday. Kinney will play in the final group for the third time this season, and he finished as the runner-up the last time he played in the last group at the Explore NB Open.
Newcomb entered the week at No. 31 in the points list and would move to No. 7 in the points list with a win.
All players completed play on Saturday. Final-round tee times are scheduled to begin Sunday at 7:30 a.m. and run until 1 p.m. off the No. 1 tee, with groups going off in twosomes.
